The Will of John Bowman
6th August 1821
In the name of God, Amen.
I John Bowman of the parish of Elvington in the East Riding of the County of York declare this to be my last Will & Testament
I give to Joseph Moyser of Sutton on Derwent & Thomas Moare of Woodhouse
Both in the East Riding of the County of York, all my real and personal estates in Trust for the following purposes-
First, I give and bequeath to my son William Bowman commonly called William Moare the sum of £500 to be paid at the end of 12 months after my decease
I give and bequeath to my daughters Elizabeth, Mary, Ann and Jane the sum of £500 each to be paid to them as they respectively attain the age of 21 years, and in case of the death of any of them before they attain that age his or her share be equally divided among the survivors
Also I give to my mother Hannah Bowman the yearly sum of £15
Also I appoint my wife Mary Bowman and my son John Bowman joint executors of my will and it is my wish that they should continue to live together but in case of separation my trustees shall have the power in come upon any part of my real or personal estates and pay there out to my said wife annually the sum of £40 during the term of her natural life
I also give my said wife and my said son John the furniture of my house as it now stands to be equally divided between them
And in case of the death of my said son John before he attains the age of 21that the estates both real and personal as before vested in my fore trustees Joseph Moyser and Thomas Moare be equally divided amongst my children aforesaid viz William Bowman(alias Moare), Elizabeth Bowman, Mary Bowman, Ann Bowman and Jane Bowman or the survivors of each of these subject to the annuities before mentioned
And I do hereby revoke and annul all and every other testament or will and do declare this to be my last will and testament
In witness whereof I have unto my set hand and seal this sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty one
