1662 John Hoyland paid £5 rent to Brierley manor for a farm in the village

 1701 and 1720 A John Hoyland paid rents to the manor

1806 The Militia list has no Hoyland listed as eligible for service recorded at Brierley

 

1838 John and Robert Hoyland are listed in the Directory

 

1840 John and Robert Hoyland are on a Tithe survey

 

1841 census returns

John Hoyland 45 Independent means, his wife Mary aged 45 and his son John aged 9. They are living at the Farm House, Church Street

 

Robert Hoyland 44, solicitor, his wife Elizabeth aged 39 at Lindley House, Brierley.

 

1851 census returns

 

John Hoyland, 57 Gentleman, his wife Mary and John aged 19, a student at Oxford, living at Brierley Hall

 

Robert Hoyland 54, attorney and solicitor, his wife Elizabeth aged 49 and Sarah his daughter aged 21 at Lindley House
