ALURED CLARKE 1744

Was born November 1744, christened at Lincolns Inn Chapel, Holborn, London.

He died on the 16th September 1832 at Langollen

He started his career as an officer in the British Army.

From 1784-1790 he was Lieutenant-Governor of Jamiaca

1791-1796 Lieutenant Governor of the Colonial Province of Quebec.

He then progressed up the ranks to become a Civil Administrator of Lower Canada.

He became a Commander in Chief of the British Forces in Madras, India, Then Bengal, then all of India, from May 1797 to 1801.

In 1830 he became a Field Marshal when William IV came to the throne.

He married Catherine Hunter in 1770, but they had no children

 

He 1799 Sir Alured Clarke (Knighted in 1797) was living at an elegant house at Chowringee, India.
